or can anyone code a testcase or something and see if this nslzipwriter can really create zip files with random uncompressed data of >4gig in size and if the result is really a valid zipfile that is compatible for instance with windows builtin zip folder, or 7zip or arbitrary zip util? thanks.

TEBE disables TB's Ctrl+Q shortcut on Ubuntu

Postby astrobob » Mon Dec 10, 2012 6:56 am

First thanks for Chuck for both FEBE & TEBE & for the new TEBE developer.

I'd like to report a bug for TEBE is TEBE beta(20120604_REJIG). When enabled, the Ctrl+Q shortcut for quitting Thunderbird does not work. When TEBE is disabled, the shortcut works again!

My system is Ubuntu Linux:
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release: 12.04

thunderbird:
Installed: 17.0+build2-0ubuntu0.12.04.1

Are you aware that a search on the Thunderbird add-on site finds TEBE missing in action? I'm sure that former TEBE users, & new users would be just as happy, relieved, & grateful to discover that it is alive, well, & available, though I imagine that it will take some time for them to discover it there. For my usage, it is working perfectly. If you haven't already, please upload it. Thanks Chuck for creating TEBE, and thanks again Gary for resurrecting and maintaining it. :D

Hi,

Yes. Unfortunately the zealots at AMO now reject anything that doesn't meed their specifications so before we can post a new release on AMO they expect us to rewrite TEBE (and FEBE I believe) to remove code from the global namespace. While that's an honourable pursuit they forget that most extensions are built by enthsiasts in their "spare" time, not teams of developers. While I'd certainly like to update TEBE and resubmit it, time is not so easy to find these days so it may be some time before I get there.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'll try and look into whether there are limitations and anything I can do about it but it may not be practical or possible. I never know why anyone would want store vast amounts of mail like that, but people sometimes do. ;-)

Thanks. I do have Ubuntu around so I will try and get around to checking this at some stage. Where does that shortcut come from? It doesn't exist under Windows. Is that standard on Linux or are you using an add-on to enable it?

Cheers.

I released a new version that adds support for the new add-on manager dictionary tab and improves a few more things, available here.

Enjoy.

Jay wrote:Hello Again Gary:

The issue of Tebe getting stuck at the "preparing result page" has been occurring again as I described a few posts above.

Whether you Check or Uncheck 'Display Results Page" the issue occurs. The backup is performed, but Tebe never closes. A window remains opened with a preparing results page message. You then have to manually abort Tebe to shut this window. When I check the folder that I saved the backup to, the backup files are there. This occurs wheter you schedule or manually run Tebe.

It has been a while and I just saw that there was an update (january this year), so I upgraded with the hopes that the issue had been fixed. Unfortunately it has not:
I have 'selected' backup, and scheduled it. It starts to run: popup comes up, saying it's running, the results page comes up showing results and the clock at the right bottom is blinking.
Then: The popup never finishes.. you have to 'abort'. The clock is blinking, and you have to abort this as well... it gives a few messages, one of which says that's been disabled now, but it keeps blinking. Seems like I have to turn the auto-backup off again.. :(
Is there a certain setting that i can check to get this working?

TEBE 20130106 with TB 24.5.0, German locale, creates these problems:
- Progress window hangs while the backup is completed successfully
- User defined backups are being accomplished, but result page only contains a lot of %NOTUSED%
- %NOTUSED% in settings dialog (user defined backups) on drop down button, above that button after clicking buttons new, edit ..., and behind Status:

Thank you for your reply, for FEBE and together with Gary for the still generally working TEBE. I am sorry that I cannot help.

Hi,

I have Win 7 pro and now TB Tebe beta (20130106_REJIG)

It starts okay at the sceduled time but I get the dreaded panel..

Code: Select all
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: chrome://tebe/content/tebeZip.js:98

I have to cancel it for it to go and then I see..

profileTB{default}.tbu Window will close wheh backup is complete.

It still seems to hang there for ages but I do not want to Abort it.

I looked in Task Manager and I see Thunderbird with hardly no CPU usage, except the occasional 1%.

How shall I play this?

Also, does this backup Archives and Folders other than Inbox, address etc.

I look in Task Manager to see if it is sworking and I can't see Tebe or Mozilla.

In the folder I am savinf too I see the file with zero size but previous attempts with 9GB +.

My folders directory has many sub folders with many GB of emails as does my Archives.

Many thanks

oz

PS I take it that this TB has to stay open for tebe to work?

Unfortunately, TEBE is no longer supported (in fact, I've been looking for another developer to take over development of it). On the other hand, TEBE has been working fine for me for years with no updates, so whatever problem you are having should be easy to find and fix.

Do you have the error console installed (Tools > Error Console)? If not, please install Console². Open the error console, clear it and attempt a backup. When the backup stalls, exam the console and copy/paste any TEBE related messages here (use the search box in the upper right to filter for 'tebe').

Of course it may be that TEBE is indeed working, but just taking a long time (9GB is a very large backup. Mine are only about 116K). Have you tried emptying your trash and junk folders? Perhaps there are some old archives that could be cleared.

And yes, Tb must be open for TEBE to work.

Hi, I am a bit late on the scene, but I have just downloaded Tebe and it is very quick (on TB 28 which I keep as it is the last version that will run the Charamel theme which is very very good) and deserves to be kept, but it is beyond me to do this. Instead can there be a donation button just for Tebe, and perhaps if there is an income stream(hopefully), someone might find it useful to keep it running for some money?? Meantime, Chuck could at least have some minor income for his early work.
Here's hoping,
Kind regards,
Terry

I'll most definitely donate to keep TEBE supported, it's an invaluable tool to backup my emails.

I hate Outlook wholeheartedly, and Thunderbird is the best email software out there, but there was no safe way to backup the Thunderbird data, until TEBE arrived.

If there is no one out there willing to take over the project, I might give it a try, I'm kind of rusty in coding, I do scripting often, but full coding / programming it's been ages since i worked on anything serious.
It'll take me a while to get up to speed, If I were to take over the TEBE project.
It'll be a nice challenge to get me back in the saddle :)
