I don't know how much you know about BabelZilla, but they only require a complete en-US locale. All other translations are created by the volunteer translators over there. I was unsure by your last post if your intention was to create the locales yourself with english strings. You would think that if we were to use the already translated locales from FEBE, it would simplify things. Unfortunately, although FEBE and TEBE are very similar, they are not exactly the same. The translators assigned to FEBE may or may not assign themselves to TEBE. The results being that any unassigned partial localizations may never get finished and I always try to release only 100% complete translations.

Yes, I know. I was intending to use the already localized strings to create largely complete versions. If you don't think it's worth the effort, by all means let the translators do it from scratch. That will save me the effort, especially if you have guys waiting to do it.

I've dropped a note to a developer friend of mine (Teo) who knows more about how BabelZilla works than I do. I'll let you know what his thoughts are. (He might even drop in here himself.)

Hi Chuck, I'm here. :) My suggestion is add only en-US locale, and in the topic inform future translators that this extension is very similar with FEBE and they can check FEBE translation to facilitate the work.

Works for me. Less work. :D

  • The TEBE icon in the statusbar continues to blink forever after a scheduled backup performs unless a manual backup or restart occurs. It is only supposed to blink for one minute just prior to the scheduled backup. The 'backup is imminent' sound effect does not play during this anomalous blinking though.
  • The full profile backup file should have the '.tbu' extension. Now it creates a file named profileTb{profileName}.fbu. As a result, TEBE cannot find the file during a full profile restore attempt.

Fixed. Incomplete transfer of code from FEBE.

cbaker_admin wrote:
  • In Where to backup > List/Reports > View backup history the links in the "Location (link if available)" and "Report?" columns do not work. They are displayed as links but do not appear to open anywhere.

This is not under TEBE's control. It depends on how you have TB's link handling set. In Tools/Options/Attachments you should find content types for "file" and "http". You need to set these as required. TB can't handle URLs so you need to tell it to use FF or to prompt every time and manually select FF. If you have ThunderBrowse installed (which I can heartily recommend), the links can open in a browser window in TB. This is the nicest solution I've found.

This is definitely something that should go into the TEBE FAQ as it's likely to be a common question.

cbaker_admin wrote:Also, in the same report, the "Run type" column lists only "Scheduled" and "(Unknown)". The "Unknown" is most likely a reference to a manually performed backup and should display "Manual".

Also fixed.

cbaker_admin wrote:
  • The reports Where to backup > Backup destination directory > View backup destination directory and Where to backup > List/Reports >View last backup directory should open separately in new tabs. There are also no report titles in the tab header.

This is down to the problems with the custom tab code. I am currently unable to control those factors. I also noticed that the directory listings opened from Advanced/Directory Info use the built-in display. There are pros and cons between having the custom pane and using the default display but I've changed those you mention to use the default display. I think this is the best choice as it's standard, consistent with FEBE, you can open subsequent links from the list in FF and then navigate as expected and, again, if you use ThunderBrowse, they work beautifully within TB.

  • The TEBE User-defined backup list data is stored in a file named tebeUserDefinedBuData.json and should always exist. You should probably check for this file when opening the options dialog and create it if necessary.

Yes, I discovered that. That should be OK. Did you have a problem with it?

cbaker_admin wrote:Let's remove the box.net link. They abruptly discontinued their affiliate program awhile back and I'm not too anxious to steer traffic their way now. I'm actually thinking about adding Dropbox interfacing in a future FEBE release.

Removed from the options dialogue and help text.

There were also a couple of regressions, unfortunately, and I tidied up quite a bit.

A new version is available here

Cheers.

Hi! How can I export the TEBE preferences? I found the section Advanced => Tools => Export TEBE Preferences but it's not obvious to me how to actually initiate an export of the preferences?

TEBE 2012 05 10 rejig
Thunderbird 12.0.1

When performing a Backup with "Both" selected, it runs, it does a full backup, but it never returns the completed / backup successful message

I had to manually abort the operation.

I've yet to test the restoration of the full profile, but individual files (extension, skins, addresses, etc) restoration, and mail box restoration works fine

Did you try pressing the button marked "Export"?

Without more info. I can't tell but you may be experiencing the bug that is fixed in the latest release. Please try that and let us know how you go.
If you could run it again BEFORE updating and report what appears in the Error Console, that would be useful.

Thanks.

Bug is still active with the latest version of Tebe.................

Here is what happens........

When you initiate a backup the backup proceeds as normal and the progress window pops up (I have it set to show this). The back-up then gets stuck with this window up. The message in the window states that it is preparing the results page. It does this indefinitely. You then have to manually shut down the window to stop the process. You then get a message by the Windows task bar stating that the back-up was aborted.

If I then check the destination folder where the back-up was suppose to go, most or all of it appears to be there. Since I am not sure whether the back-up completed, I cannot be sure if everything was backed up. Either way, the back-up process never completes as far as the progress window closing. It never completes generating the results page.

Jay, What platform are you running? On Linux (and possibly OS X) the play sound xpcom component does not work. If you disable sounds (TEBE Options > Advanced > Sounds) the routine is skipped and the backup should complete.

Thanks Chuck, that's interesting and unexpected from a "cross-platform" system. Not nice!

I hadn't looked at it on Linux so I fired up my Ubuntu VM and did some testing. It does indeed complain about nsiSound and it does work when you disable the "play sounds" option. That should be taken care of internally so I'll do that and I'll look at one or two other things I noticed when I can, too.

Hello Chuck:

I am using ThunderBird 12.0.1 and Windows 7 64 Bit. I disabled the sound and tried to perform another backup. Same thing happens as stated above. Progess window hangs continuously with the message preparing the Results Page.
