TEBE hanging... tried everything i can think of..

running the latest version of thunderbird as of today (45.2.0). and TEBE (20130106) has been hanging... see attachments. tried uninstalling TEBE, tried going back to version 38 of thunderbird. checked permissions of tebe.xpi, making sure it was not read only... tried changing settings in TEBE, options, HOW TO BACKUP, tried asynchronously checked and unchecked.
tried clearing saved backups, and upping the number of backups allowed (thinking it was having problems deleting old backups)...
i can get it to run if i check selective backup, and select all, but uncheck BACKUP POP MAIL FOLDERS
the mail folder being backed up is not that large... 250MB
i have this extension running on 3 other machines... all work fine, running latest thunderbird, latest TEBE and some other machines have HUGE mail folders
any ideas? i love this extension, and i have wasted way too much time trying to get it to work

So is TEBE only hanging while attempting a selective backup with "Backup POP mail folders" checked? Does a full profile backup only work (not 'Selective', 'Both' or 'Alternate')? Was TEBE working before on this machine, or is it a new install?

TEBE has not been updated in years and although other developers have expressed interest in maintaining it, no one has actually taken it over. And it seem doubtful anyone would want to maintain it after Mozilla announced they will be deprecating XUL and XPCOM (which is the platform TEBE was written in).

thanks for the response...
no, the hangup happens always, selective, or full...
only way it will not hang, is if i choose selective and UNCHECK backup POP mail folder

any ideas?

When "Backup POP mail folders" is checked, TEBE attempts to read and backup the [Tb profile folder]\Mail (in my case, it is C:\Users\cbake\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\1kvaudyd.default\Mail).

Check the permissions on your Mail folder and see if you can open/read/write/copy any or all of the sub-folder contents.

still no go
checked it, and no files were read only... check another machien where tebe is working fine just to compare and make sure they were identical, and they were...

Interesting ... let's try something else.

TEBE is trying to zip the contents of the Mail folder when it fails. Can you use a zip utility (like 7zip) to manually zip the folder without errors? Also try manually zipping the entire Tb profile folder.

hey chuck, very interesting...
i opened thunderbird, so i could truely replicate tebe running.. then went to my mail foler and tried to zip it and got the following
again, this is with thunderbird up and running...

i checked the three offending files, and everything seemed ok (permission wise) even tried deleted the files, they were just recreated and problem still persisted

any more ideas?

Were you able to delete the files while Tb was open or only when it was closed? If only when open, then Tb itself is locking the files. If Tb is locking the files, I'm at a loss to explain it. Are you certain you only have one instance of Tb running (check the task manager)? You say it's working on your other machines, do you have the same Tb extensions installed? Could it be your anti-virus application is locking the files? Try disabling it temporarily.

im running the exact same setup on 2 other machines.. by exact, i mean exact, win 7, 64bit, running thunderbird 45.2.0) and the same version of TEBE, works on the other two, not on mine.

i am only able to delete when TB is closed

i see only 1 instance of TB running in TASK MANAGER

im at a loss as well

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I'm out of ideas. If I have an epiphany later on, I'll let you know.

ok, kinda got it fixed i think... created a new profile, loaded my old prefs and mail folder... and it makes the noise, shows the results page, creates the backups like it should, only thing is now, the TEBE in progress window never closes.. see screenshot

Good. I'm glad you can at least get a backup now. Perhaps others with a similar problem will read this thread and follow your steps.
