Paste Email Plus 2.0 released

Postby cbaker_admin » Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:48 pm

Paste Email Plus v2.0RC1 has been released. Get it from the homepage.
  • Firefox 2.0 - 3.0.*
  • Unlimited pastetext lines
  • Offers encryption for sensitive items like passwords
  • Slider alerts (similar to FEBE/CLEO, et. al.)
  • Ability to add meta tags for date and time
  • Preview screen displays rendered HTML and Textarea content
  • Improved tree view assures selected item always in display when re-ordering
  • Sort option
  • Add, change, delete operations more intuitive.
  • en-US locale only. More to come.
  • Other minor bug fixes

Paste Email Plus is a completely separate extension from the original Paste Email. They have different GUIDs and can be installed at the same time (but I don't know why you would want to ...)

When I first upgraded Paste Email to v3.0, many users complained that the new version was too different from the original and included functions they thought were unnecessary (such as password encryption). The best solution I thought would be to release two separate versions.

Should Paste Email Plus v2 read my Paste Email Plus v1.0.3 file, in profile/pasteemailplus.dat?
It doesn't, for me.

In case it matters, Firefox 3 uses my profile folder(s) located at C:\Profiles\Firefox\profilefolder

And Firefox is started with
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profile "C:\Profiles\Firefox\profilefolder"

Yes, your v1.0.3 datafile should be compatible with v2.0. PEP looks for the datafile in the directory returned by Firefox's nsIFile XPCOM component:

Code: Select all
   var pasteemailplusDataFile = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/file/directory_service;1"]
      .getService(Components.interfaces.nsIProperties)
      .get("ProfD", Components.interfaces.nsIFile);
   pasteemailplusDataFile.append(PASTEEMAILPLUSDATAFILE);
   if(!pasteemailplusDataFile.exists()){return false;}

where "ProfD" is your profile directory.

Apparently the way you are invoking Firefox does matter. Perhaps this is a Firefox bug. I'll search Bugzilla to see if I can find anything on it.

Edit: No bug reports found. I did, however, test it with a new non-standard profile location and it seems to work fine for me. Pleas try re-installing from the Paste Email Homepage to see if it makes a difference.

Well, I can't say what the problem was but an uninstall/reinstall fixed it. I've tried that a couple of times and it worked OK for me, each time.
Thanks for your work. I really find this add-on useful.
