sorting distinguishes majuscules and minuscules

Postby axgjuhlv » Sun Sep 04, 2011 5:28 am

Hi!

The sorting in PasteEmail Plus works alphanumerically, right? This is cool, but the uppercase and lowercase letters are treated as different sorting criteria. This leads to the strange sorting ABCabc. Can this please be changed somehow? The addon is still very useful, thanks so much :-)

There are basically two kinds of alphanumeric sort routines: Case sensitive and case insensitive. For example, given the list:

  • Grapes
  • 1 potato
  • Elderberries
  • Apples
  • figs
  • Cantaloupe
  • dates
  • 2 potato
  • bananas
  • huckleberries

a case sensitive sort would result in:

  • 1 potato
  • 2 potato
  • Apples
  • Cantaloupe
  • Elderberries
  • Grapes
  • bananas
  • dates
  • figs
  • huckleberries

and a case insensitive sort would result in:

  • 1 potato
  • 2 potato
  • Apples
  • bananas
  • Cantaloupe
  • dates
  • Elderberries
  • figs
  • Grapes
  • huckleberries

There are two places that Paste Email Plus uses sorts. One is in the category window where the sort is case insensitive. The other place is in the Pastetext window where the pastetext is not so much sorted as just grouped by category.

In any event, are you aware that the order of both lists can be altered using the up/down arrow icons located at the bottom of the lists?

Thanks for elaborating :-)
I don't use the categories and found the manual sorting tedious. Esp. since I add or change entries almost every day. Can an option for case-insensitive sorting of the Pastetext section please be added in a future version of the addon. In about:config would be enough, I don't demand a button for the GUI ;-)
