Paste Email Plus on Firefox 17.0.1 and 18.0 does not work

Postby pdophoto » Tue Jan 08, 2013 7:55 pm

Hi I need help, I have been using Paste Email Plus for quite a time, but my computer failed and I had to re-build the system.
Since then Paste Email Plus does not allow me to paste my password and when I try to paste something else I get:
Universal Connect was refused, cannot copy to clipboard. Go to about:config and set signed.applets.codebase_principal_support to true enable clipboard support.
Changing this to true does not help.
I have tried Paste Email (Original) successfully, but it is limited.

Can anyone help please,
Pierre

Where is the error message you are getting displayed? Is it in some Fx popup message? In the error console?

PEP is working for me just fine in Fx 18.0 (Windows 7) even with the preference signed.applets.codebase_principal_support set to false. Just to be sure, I created a brand new profile with only PEP installed to test. It also worked as expected (although I did discover a bug that insists that at least one category be defined before any pastetext can be saved).

Are you able to save pastetext items but not allowed to paste them into website form fields?

Hi,

thanks for the reply.

I can save pastetext items but I am not allowed to paste them into website.
Every time I paste an item I get the following message: Universal Connect was refused, cannot copy to clipboard. Go to about:config and set signed.applets.codebase_principal_support to true enable clipboard support.
and nothing is pasted.

I am beginning to think that some Windows security is not allowing it to work.

How is the message "Universal Connect was refused, cannot copy to clipboard. Go to about:config and set signed.applets.codebase_principal_support to true enable clipboard support." displayed? I'm trying to figure out if PEP or Firefox is trapping/delivering the error.

Ok, it looks like PEP is generating/displaying the error. Try this:

  1. Open the error console (Tools > Web Developer > Error Console)
  2. Click the "Errors" button in the top left
  3. Clear the console by clicking the "Clear" button
  4. In the "Evaluate" box, type (or paste) netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege("UniversalXPConnect");
  5. Click the "Evaluate" button
  6. Copy/paste any messages that appear into this thread. (You can use CTRL-a, CTRL-c, CTRL-v to select all, copy, paste)

This should tell me the actual error Firefox is encountering.

Hi again,
I am sorry, no change, did I do something wrong? When I try to use PEP it inserts what is in the clipboard instead of the text in PEP.
Could these help.
Many thanks for still helping,
Pierre

Are your password entries encrypted? If so, they can only be pasted within password fields.

That's interesting ... Have you tried deleting the entry and re-entering it? Are there any UTF-16 (international characters, like "ą", "ń", "Ÿ", etc.) in the password? As a last resort, you may consider resetting the PEP preferences (PEP options > Options > Reset preferences). This will set everything back to default and clear all stored pastetext items.

Hi,
thank you very much for your patience and great help. I had to reset the preferences, but now it is working.

So thank you again for a great addition to Firefox.

Best regards,
Pierre
