Lightweight themes (Personas) full backup?

Postby BackerUpper » Thu Sep 13, 2018 7:40 am

Hello and thanks again for the wonderful FEBE!

Please correct me if I'm wrong: I think that the backed up Lightweight themes (json files) do not include the actual images, but only links to addons.cdn.mozilla.net. Since Mozilla has already started removing a lot of content related to what they call "Legacy technology", perhaps there's a way to fully backup (offline) these themes, too? It'd be a pity for users to lose them overnight.

P.S. I'm not sure what occurs when backing up complete Themes (jar files). It seems like they are fully backed up.

I don't know for sure, but since Thunderbird will continue to support lightweight themes I don't think Mozilla will remove those images.

Even if they do remove the theme image repository, having FEBE grab the online images and applying them to the persona themes would be problematic. That is currently done internally with Firefox.

It appears that Thunderbird has purged their lightweight themes for SeaMonkey from their website.

Oh dear... let's hope they won't soon remove everything.

They probably will though.
