FEBE: Getting "Unresponsive Script" message in PM 28.9.3

Postby VLM » Sun May 24, 2020 7:18 am

Hi Chuck,

Running PM 28.9.3. FEBE 10.4, Win 7

The last few times I've run FEBE in PM 28.9.x, it has seemed to hang at points along the way. A couple of times, it hung at about 94% completion and I aborted FEBE's backup. The backup itself seems complete and intact.

Today, I got the famous "Unresponsive Script" message indicating the location chrome://febe/content/febe.js:8185. So I wonder whether recent updates to PM might be causing a bit of a problem with FEBE 10.4. Have you received any other inquiries in this regard?

Thanks,
Elchanan

Oh, BTW, FEBE did complete successfully today, after I clicked "Continue" in the Unresponsive Script dialog.

If FEBE is taking longer to complete, it is likely due to a large profile, a large number of installed extensions, and/or other computer activity. Firefox (and I assume Pale Moon) will display the "Unresponsive Script" message after 20 seconds of waiting. To resolve this, go to FEBE Options > Advanced > Miscellaneous > Advanced preferences > Chrome script timeout (seconds) and increase it to 60. You can increase this amount if need be.

You'll notice on the FEBE Results Report heading, there is a line that reads Total processing time: xx.xxx seconds. The script timeout setting should be at least twice the processing time to avoid the message. Since I have FEBE backing up three different profiles during a backup, I have mine set to 180 seconds.

Thanks Chuck, I never knew about the timeout for the Unresponsive Script message. I've reset Pale Moon to 60 and FEBE to 180; FEBE now runs just fine.

Thank you!

Chuck, is the PM unresponsive script timeout setting called dom.max_script_run_time?

Thanks!

Oh, I see, they are one and the same. Clear, thank you!
