Finding conflicting extensions by the process of elimination can be anywhere from time consuming to impractical.

How about a tool that could unload half your extensions; reload firefox; ask if the conflict is gone (which may take many sessions/days to confirm); repeat the process as necessary - and then reload all the non-conflicting extensions you started with?

For myself, I have lots of loaded and unloaded extensions (listed below). This type of tool would be a god send.

This sounds like a good idea! I don't know when I'd have the time to investigate it, but perhaps some other developers might consider it.

@sirald66 I feel your pain like you have collection of disabled and active addons but no "easy" way to do conflict testing.

How did you build the list of addons in your post was that automated?

Are there developers associated with FEBE that already have access to the source? I am assuming what I am suggesting could use a majority of FEBE related code.

I am currently in the process of writing an add-on that will help find extensions that conflict with another. It is called FECT (Firefox Extension Conflict Troubleshooter). Right now it is only about 75% complete, but I'm making progress.

Here's how the extension will work:

The user designates a "target" extension. This is the extension that is not working properly. FECT will systematically disable/enable one half of the installed extensions until the user declares the conflict is resolved. FECT will keep a list of "suspect" extensions during each iteration, changing the suspect list each time depending on whether or not the conflict is resolved. When the conflict is declared resolved, FECT will reset the enabled/disabled status of the installed extensions to the way is was before the start of the FECT session.

When FECT is ready for testing, I will post more information here.

FECT is a great idea! The problem i see is that some exts. don't restore their settings properly after being re-enabled. For instance, Menu Editor was a pain in that respect - it would lose the menu order if, let's say TMP was disabled and then re-enabled. I used to hate doing this. I no longer use ME and i believe most of its users shifted to Menu Wizard which doesn't seem to have this issue but i'm just giving an example as i can't think of a better one right now but i want to mention it as i think it might present a challenge. You probably know this things happen.
Can't wait to test! Good Luck, Chuck!
