Firefox Quantum (FFQ) has destroyed my most useful Add-Ons

Please excuse my impatience. Yesterday I discovered ALL my Extensions had been termed “Legacy” and “Unsupported” by FFQ. Does anyone know if this will be reversed by FFQ’s programming staff?

My top Extension is FEBE. Unfortunately I could never get CLEO to work. I have FFQ 57, and it is updated as soon as one is available.

It seems to me the FFQ staff is being VERY inconsiderate of the people that use their browser.

Among the other Extensions that have gone into the “Unsupported” dustbin are “Go Parent Folder” and “Show Parent Folder”. Because I have kept my Bookmarks organized I was able to quickly find a link. Now it is almost impossible because many duplicates have crept into my list of Bookmarks.

There was an Extension I tried, “Bookmark Deduplicator”, and it cut my list of Bookmarks nearly to 1/3 of the many thousands. I had to use a FEBE backup because it also removed valuable Bookmarks. That was caused because there was no capability to manually select from a list what was to be deleted. Now it is impossible to use any similar program that might have this capability, or many other programs that would necessitate a FEBE backup to recover the most recent backup if the results were unacceptable.

I also used a very valuable Extension called Wired-Marker. It doesn’t even appear any longer, and there is no way to view the comments of users. I was able to highlight pertinent content on a web page, then view the highlighted text later by accessing the Bookmark. FFQ completely destroyed any vestiges of this Extension. Maybe the developers have had enough and decided the time and effort they spent developing it is not worth having their very useful programs destroyed by FFQ, since this happened again not too long ago. In the comments section for that Extension I never saw anything but praise for it by those who used it. It can be found on the Internet by browsing for Wired-Marker, but I didn’t see any way to add it to FFQ. If they are going to offer it for sale outside of FFQ I believe many will opt to buy it, as would many for FEBE. That may at least provide enough funds for development to overcome the destructive tendencies of those who run FFQ. I assume most donate their time, which would probably be a factor, but just because they work primarily without compensation is no excuse for destroying the availability of very useful programs.

It seems to me that there is a total lack of communication between the FFQ programming staff and the developers of Extensions. What are they thinking by putting FFQ users in a position of no longer having the Extensions they have depended on, in particular FEBE?

I agree with your sentiments. Unfortunately, no one at Mozilla is likely to see this post. Maybe you should re-post it in the blog. Many there have expressed their concerns. It probably won't do much good, but at least someone from Mozilla will see it.
