Hi Chuck. Quick question regarding FEBE beta and FF4b9. With all the changes in FF4 Ii.e. menu bars, etc.. being hidden by default), I don't see an easy way to launch FEBE to perform a backup from the default appearance of the toolbars/menu bar in FF4. I have to press the ALT key to show the menu bar and then select Tools->FEBE to perform a backup and stuff. Is there something I'm not seeing with FEBE and FF4? Are you planning on adding FEBE as an entry into their default Addon menu somehow?

Also when I run a backup in FF4b9, it failed backing up 2 extensions -Microsoft Framework Assistant and Java Quick Starter. Not sure why. The backup ok in FF3.6. Let me know if you need a specific log file or something.

Thank you,

FGump

I'm not sure that adding an icon to the Fx default toolbars is a good way to go - it's liable to upset some users. (In fact, I'm not sure it even can be done.)

What I do is have Fx show the Navigation Bar and use 'Customize" to drag & drop the icon there.

FEBE 7.0b201011150930
Firefox 4.0b10

Two problems:
  • When there are pending extension installations at the time of FEBE scheduled backup, the number of pending installations is always shown a double the actual number in the right-bottom "slider" information.
  • When a FEBE scheduled backup is cancelled, an empty folder is created in the "Backup destination directory". I usually do not cancel scheduled backups, but noticed this due to cancelling scheduled backups for incorrect number of pending extension installations per the previous item.
FEBE is among the best extensions for Firefox. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, TXGuy. Both items have been fixed and will appear in the next beta release.

It's a little slow going right now. I really only have the weekends to work on it. Right now, I'm writing the verification routines. It's all new code and uses a lot of the new Gecko 2.0 components and are not very well documented yet. I'm hoping to have something to release in March.

Only five extensions without ERROR label are backed up, listed in Quick Backup dialog or ignore list. All extensions with ERROR label work perfectly and I can't find any common features in them to contrast them with those five ones.

I'm wondering if it is a Minefield issue. Have you considered upgrading to Firefox 4RC? FEBE knows the difference between packed and unpacked extensions, but maybe Minefield doesn't report them correctly. I know Fx4 does because that is the version I am using for FEBE testing.

But my Minefield is updated every day. Don't nightly builds always represent the latest code changes? Isn't Firefox 4RC older than the last nightly build?

Yes, Minefield code is updated nightly but may also introduce new bugs (which are reported and quickly fixed for a future nightly). Firefox 4RC is considered stable (or nearly so) as it is updated less frequently.

I've done some tests with new profiles both in Minefield and RC and I've found out that the issue is rather in profiles than in builds. I've uninstalled all the extensions in the old profile and now after reinstallation FEBE backs all the Minefield extensions up correctly.

Have tried the new FEBE 7 beta to restore previous version settings. Bookmarks OK. History not OK. Hang (have to kill FireFox) after clicking the OK button; but the history is restored.

EDIT: I use FireFox 4 portable

And my problem returns (only some extensions are backed up). Well, I'll wait for Fx 4 release...
