1) I confirm that (with bookmarks backup selected as json and html options), they are saved only in json format.

2) While the backup folder name and the processed time in the summary page now have correct time/date, the actual name of the results/report page (in the corresponding backup folder) has still got the name: "Results - FEBE NaN NaN-NaN NaN.NaN.NaN.html"

I can reproduce both bugs with the last release of Firefox (27.0.1) (on Win 7 prof., German version):
1. The file "FEBE Results Report" within the backup folder has the file name "Results - FEBE NaN NaN-NaN NaN.NaN.NaN.html"
2. The file bookmarks.html is not backed up

I just tried beta 8 and ran into a slight curve. I use Sticky Password and had to add the following to the ignore list to get the backup to complete.

Sticky Password Autofill Engine (v7.0.5.29)

I have had issues with it in the past but there was always the ignore button if I remember right. The beta 8 does not have this and so hangs unless it is on the ignore list. I was not aware of the ignore list before today. Just be sure to go to Tools > FEBE > FEBE Options > What to Backup > Backup type > Ignore List > Get list > Save changes. If you don't save it won't be on the list. Also every time you go to the Ignore list it is blank until you select Get list. Is it possible to adjust or add a setting to always get list when selecting the tab? Thanks.

BTW, the new version seems very fast compared to the older versions. It is such an improvement I was shocked. Excellent work.

Hi Chuck,

sorry to say, but when I try to backup my extensions with FEBE8beta9 or FEBE8beta10 within my Firefox 27.01 (German version) I get an error message -- although with beta8 everything still was okay.

Now, with beta9 or beta10 two problems occur:
First, there is no item "FEBE" within the "Options" menu of Firefox (where I used to check what and where to backup the desired files).
Second, when I open the addons manager instead to set the FEBE options, I get the following error message:

I try to translate from German:
XML processing error: Entity not defined.
Address: chrome\\febe\content\settings\febeOptions.xul
Line No. 42, column 2:

Hi Chuck,

i have the same Problems like the User "Bito". I can only use Beta8, and the second Problem:
when i use the option Cloud Services, FEBE hang when Backup run. One Backup in my Directory
on HDD and one to my NAS.
With Beta7 i can use my NAS correctly.

I hope my english is good enough to understand...

@Bito and RaSch

Please install v8.0beta11. It contains the locale files. Most are still in English, but FEBE has been submitted for translation.

Hi Chuck,

thanks for your quick answer.
I install Beta 11 and it's running :-)
BUT i can't use my NAS.
When i activate the Option "Cloud Service"
FEBE don't work: its run and run and run....
Backup on HDD: perfect
Backup on HDD and NAS: no chance
Backup only on NAS: no chance

Beta 7 run correctly with my NAS.

I'm not entirely familiar with NAS (Network-attached storage), but it is my understanding that NAS drives are similar to regular external drives inasmuch as they can be access through Window via a drive letter. If that is the case (and there are no credentials needed to access the drive, i.e. username/password) then they should work with FEBE.

Here is the Cloud Services window:
Image

Are you able to use the buttons to browse, test, and explore the drive?

Are you getting any FEBE related errors in the error console (Tools > Web Developer > Error Console)? Please install the Console² extension for error checking. It is more comprehensive.

Also try running "Clear FEBE preferences", "Verify extension directory" and "Check AddonManager functionality" in Tools > FEBE > FEBE Options > Advanced. (You will need to re-enter your FEBE backup destination directory and other backup options after clearing.)

If you are still experiencing problems, try this: Open and clear the Error console. Leave it open and perform a backup. After a few seconds (when the progress meter starts moving again) examine the error console for any FEBE related error messages (type febe in the "Search:" box). Copy/paste them here.

Hi Chuck,

Big THX :-)
after the 3rd clearing of the preferences, Febe runs perfect.
When i take the 3rd reset, firefox break, because firefox make
a update to version 28 and than all runs correctly.

Respect for your work and thanks for this great program.

*** BUMP ***

FEBE 8.0beta12 released

  • Beta12 fixes:
  • Permissions problem with *nix platforms. FEBE will attempt to temporarily give read/write/execute permissions to the profile directory and change back when done.
  • Better error trapping when profile directory is unreadable
  • Tweeks to 'Backup on shutdown' routine
  • Added "FEBE debug mode" to FEBE Options > Advanced > Advanced preferences. Checking this box will open and dock the error console.
  • Temporarily removed all locales except English (en-US) until translations are done.

Hi,
I am running a puppy linux variant, Firefox 28.0, FEBE beta 12. When I perform a selective backup, the backup is successful, however the "Backup in progress" dialog remains open, with the progress meter indicating it is still running. I abort it, but the backup file seems to be written properly.
