An explanation for the support response time

Postby cbaker_admin » Fri Jun 04, 2010 12:28 pm

While I strive to answer support questions in this forum in a timely manner (usually 24 hours or less), I have of late been much slower in providing that support. I believe I owe my users an explanation.

On the evening of May 25, 2010, while asleep for the night, I experienced a grand mal seizure (also known as a tonic-clonic seizure). During this seizure, I suffered from hypoxia that caused my heart to stop, my liver to stop functioning, and my kidneys to shut down. My dog, Sierra, alerted to my condition and woke my wife who immediately called 911. When the paramedics arrived, they were able to revive me with CPR and an injection of epinephrine directly into my chest. In the ambulance on the way to the emergency room, I suffered three more seizures and my heart stopped twice more. Since I was not breathing on my own, I was intubated and connected to a respirator. I was in a coma for five days and was not expected to survive. Even after contracting a case of nosocomial pneumonia, my prognosis is now good. I am, however, still quite weak and may remain so for several days or weeks. Typing and concentrating is difficult.

For these reasons, I may be slow to addresses individual questions concerning my extensions. As soon as I am able, however, I will personally respond to all unanswered posts. In the meantime, it is my hope that any users that feel they may be able to offer suggestions to others that may help resolve support issues will do so. It is also my hope that enough questions have already been answered within these forums and FAQs that no user will become completely stuck.

Chuck, your experiences with the seizures and subsequent issues are overwhelming! I have been unable to work for about ten years or so, but I don't think I'll complain or feel sorry for myself ever again! My mother had a number of GM seizures earlier in her life, so I am somewhat familiar with what they are and how frightening it can be for both the "victim" and his loved ones. May God bless you in all ways possible to continue to be an example to those of us who have a much lighter cross to bear, and to have good health for the sake of you and your family. Of course, I also enjoy your software, but this seems so much more important.
