Backup not completing/Progress window not closing
The progress window should actually appear to be "stuck" (not moving) when a backup is performing normally. This is because the browser is essentially frozen during a backup. If the progress bar is moving continuously, an error has most likely occurred.
If you have just upgraded a FEBE major version (e.g., v5.x to v6.x), it is important that you clear FEBE preferences before attempting a backup:
Go to Tools > FEBE > FEBE Options > Misc > click "Clear FEBE preferences". This will remove all older version preferences and set the current preferences (options) to a default value. Firefox will automatically restart after clearing the preferences. You will need to specify a backup destination directory (Directory pane) and select backup type and options (Options pane) before attempting a backup.
Checking for FEBE errors
To check for errors, go to Tools > Error Console and enter "febe" in the search box. You may also want try the Console² extension for error checking. It is more comprehensive. Try this: Open and clear the Error console. Leave it open and perform a backup. After a few seconds (when the progress meter starts moving again) examine the error console for any error messages. Select all/Copy/paste (ctrl-A, ctrl-C, ctrl-V) them in a new post.
If you are seeing a FEBE related error in the Error console that mentions "febeTLBRbutton" you need to (at least temporarily) add the FEBE icon to your toolbar. (View > Toolbars > Customize... > drag and drop FEBE icon to somewhere on your toolbar)
Make sure that the FEBE Options window is not open during a backup. This is known to prevent scheduled backup from performing.
FEBE 6.x for Firefox 3.x users:
The most common cause for the never ending progress window is usually due to invalid entries in your profile/extension folder. To fix, click Tools > FEBE > FEBE Options > Misc > Verify extension directory and let FEBE fix any errors.
If you are having any problems with "Unresponsive script" or "Script is busy" messages, follow the troubleshooting instructions in this thread.
